For travel over an hour we may charge travel depending on the total number of tests provided.

We can also provide RPE (Sundstrom and 3M) on the day of testing if required.

Prior to conducting fit testing with us you will need to:

  • Specify what brand and model RPE is being used and requires testing (is it a Sundstrom SR100 or a 3M 9322A+, is it a 3M 7502?)
  • Understand how to select, use and maintain the RPE (is the mask for Silica or Asbestos, or is the mask for a gas or vapour)
  • Know how to don the RPE (understand how to put on the mask)
  • all workers are clean shaven around the sealing surface of the respirator- We will not test any worker’s have any stubble/ goatees or facial hair that interferes with the seal- they must be clean shaven (we will refuse to test anyone with facial hair- we do have razors and cream onsite but it saves substantial time for your business if all workers are clean shaven)
  • you bring any PPE you may be wearing while wearing RPE (hardhats, glasses) so we can test with this to ensure it is compatible
  • no workers smoke 30 minutes prior to testing
  • no workers eat within 15 minutes of testing
  • if you are bringing your own respirator on the day of testing please ensure this is in a safe and clean condition, if bringing your own mask we will need to know the brand and model so we can ensure we have an adaptor for the testing- if we do not have an adaptor we will be unable to test
  • all workers are medically fit to wear a respirator, if there is any doubt of this the employee should be medically assessed by a medical practitioner or occupational health physician

For each fit test conducted we issue the following:

  • A fit test report stating respirator tested and any specific notes (report complies with ISO 16975-3:2017)
  • A fit test card, so workers can demonstrate onsite they have been tested
  • Calibration certificates to show that the PortaCount used is in current calibration
  • Evidence of daily checks if required

We also keep your fit test data within a central cloud based database- meaning we can easily reissue fit test reports and fit test cards if you lose reports, or require retesting.

Please note we only conduct quantitative fit testing, as qualitative fit testing is not entirely accurate (see clause 8.5.2 AS/NZS 1715:2009) as it relies on the wearers subjective response.

Quantitative fit testing is done to ensure the mask or RPE being used seals adequately to the users face, and to check the user can don the RPE correctly. Each test takes approximately 15-20 minutes and can be done onsite within our purpose built fit testing van or at our facilities in Woolloongabba. If done onsite we generally conduct 2 tests every 15 minutes- so can test 8 workers per hour.

Our face fit testing ensures employers meet the requirements of the AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment and WHS Regulation Section 44 (3). Our fit testing is carried out by trained and competent operators in accordance with:

  • ISO 16975-3:2017  Respiratory protective devices – Selection, use and maintenance Part 3: Fit Testing procedures
  • OSHA 1910.134 or INDG 479/HSE 282/28 protocols (depending on the client’s exact needs)
  • PortaCount 8038/8048 Manufacturers specifications
