Working at heights? Read this before you do!

With falls from heights accounting for 28% of fatalities in Australia and the cause of 28% of main causes of injury in the construction industry, Australian workers need to understand the risks of working at heights.

 

Awareness combined with thorough knowledge of managing the risks associated with work at heights can help keep themselves and their co-workers safe.

 

 

A construction industry profile formed by Safe Work Australia found the following facts:

  • 30% of fall injuries were caused by use of a ladder
  • 58% of fatalities caused by falls were from roofs and ladders, half of which involved falls of less than 4 metres high
  • The most at risk occupation for falls in the construction industry were carpenters followed by plumbers
