Why is the Sundström SR100 the Industry choice for non-friable asbestos removal?

Leading asbestos removal and demolition companies are actively consulting with their workers for the most suitable PPE (personal protective equipment) and RPE (respiratory protective equipment) for non friable asbestos removal and the workers have spoken- the Sundström SR100 is one of the best respiratory protection on the market.

Why is the Sundström SR100 so good?

Comfort: The SR100 is comfortable to wear and workers are able to work for hours without the respirator becoming a nuisance. This makes workers more likely to keep the respirator on while working.

Facial Seal: The SR100 provides an excellent facial seal. When Facial Fit Testing is conducted the average pass score for the SR100 is between 2000-7500 proving it provides an excellent seal. To see the difference in seal between clean shaven users and users with beards click here.

Accessories: The storage case makes storing this respirator hygienic and hassle free. For work in loud areas a special microphone inserted into the respirator can make it easier for workers to communicate.

Price: Average pricing varies however a SR100 with a carry case and 1 filter can be bought for $110, with replacement filters around the $25 mark. The mask itself has a 10 year lifespan (as per manufacturer specifications) and replacement of the filters should be done every 2-4 weeks or when resistance is felt (as per manufacturer’s specifications). The initial purchase cost and the low price for filter cartridges makes it a very economic product. SR100s can be purchased here.

Paper-type (disposable) masks: With paper P2 masks the disposable respirator must be thrown away after each use and at $2 per mask the price can very quickly add up. Also a papermasks provides less respiratory protection than a cartridge type respirator.

We stress the use of suitable PPE and RPE  in our non friable asbestos courses and encourage students to purchase a suitable respirator, and have a good understanding of the manufacturers specifications.

About Sundström

Sundström was founded in 1926 by Ivan Sundström. Ivan was a mining engineer who saw a need for protecting workers eyes and respiratory systems. Ivan’s son Per developed the products and the company further. Like Ivan, Per studied at a technical academy and his art studies included analysis of subjects such as the anatomy  of the human body. It is the understanding of human face forms which has facilitated the properties and the design of face masks. The masks had to be comfortable and simple to use and in 1962 Per presented the first modern protective mask which was made from rubber. In 1989 the first silicon mask was released.

Sundström has invested many resources into their product development and it is for this reason that they will continue to be a market leader.
