What do the marks on BA cylinders mean?
One questions students have constantly been asking is what do the markings on cylinders mean? Some cylinders are easy to read whereas some are quite difficult.Below we look at what the different markings mean.
AS2764- This is the Australian Standard that cylinders are designed to meet or exceed
WC9,10 Kg- This is essentially the volume of the cylinder, meaning this cylinder would hold 9 litres of water.
MJ7199- This is the unique serial number of the cylinder. Each cylinder will have a different serial number.
4.04- This is the date of manufacture, 4 means April and 04 means 2004. Aluminium and carbon fibre cylinders are designed for a 15 year lifecycle, so this would mean that the cylinder is retired in April 2019.
05|078|16- This shows when the tank was hydro statically tested and the testing station number. So the above would mean it has been hydrostatically tested on the 5 month of 2016. The 078 represents the testing station number.
