At Pro Safety and Training we are passionate about high quality asbestos removal training.
During a recent site inspection on an older Queensland style house we came across some suspect sheeting that was stamped as "Asbestos Free". Although these sheets did not contain asbestos there may be other products in the building containing asbestos. Just because some sheets are labelled asbestos free there may still be asbestos in the house and workers and homeowners need to be aware of the risks.
Because many older homes have been in lived in by several different owners and many owners have completed extensions/renovations themselves there may not be asbestos in certain locations in the house, but in older parts of the house there may be asbestos. In this house a closer inspection of internal wall sheets opposite the asbestos free sheets found bonded asbestos sheets.
With asbestos being phased out in the mid 1980s and a final ban on asbestos in 2004, if you ever come across a suspect product you should assume it is asbestos and have it tested at a NATA approved lab.
