Cleaning up after the Cyclone- Asbestos Safety

We understand that weather events like this bring danger both during and after the extreme weather. One danger we understand very well is asbestos.

 

Pro Safety and Training has put together some resources that may assist in managing the risk from asbestos during cyclone clean up.

 

Identifying Asbestos

 

If you are unsure of whether a product contains asbestos, assume it does and have a sample tested at a NATA approved lab. Steps to taking a sample can be found in the appendix of How to manage and control asbestos in the workplace Code of Practice 2011.

Using a contractor to remove the asbestos

 

Use a licensed contractor to remove the asbestos, this will mean it is done safely and will eliminate risk to yourself.

Getting rid of asbestos

 

Please enquire with the waste facility prior to disposing of asbestos. All asbestos waste has to be transported in line with Queensland laws.
